The Story

Named and inspired by Japanese partitions and folding screens, the Nychair X Shikiri ottoman is adorned with a geometric pattern by Rika Kawato.///Description
A series that follows in the footsteps of Takeshi Nii and expresses the elements of beauty in Japanese architecture through weaving patterns with different-coloured yarns. The Shikiri series is based on the motif of shikiri partitions seen in traditional Japanese architecture and features misty blueish-grey tones that are reminiscent of black ink paintings and Scandinavian landscapes. It brings to mind the atmosphere shared by Denmark, heavily influenced by Japonisme in architecture and design and Japan. It can be said that this combination is at the root of Rika Kawato's design, born from a Japanese father and a Danish mother.
