Topside stool

A versatile heavy-set design that can be used as either a stool or side table. Topside was conceived by exploring the limits of making a viable design through one section of timber. The result is a resolutely simple design, one which balances weight, space, thickness and softness, to powerful effect.///Description
The design has a hint of the absurd about it, yet is uncompromisingly practical, and can be used throughout the home to sit on, stand on, or as a place for life's daily ephemera. Made from European Ash, the design comes in a natural or stained finish. 

Initially launched to critical acclaim in 2009, the SCP Boxed Collection challenged designers to create smaller-scale pieces that fit within the dimensions of a standard DHL international shipping box (480 x 400 x 390mm). More broadly, the aim was to design objects that could be easily carried out of a store or efficiently shipped via e-commerce.

For 2025, SCP has revisited the Boxed Collection brief, inviting a mix of established designers and emerging talent to explore the concept once again. With no restrictions on material, the brief encourages a diverse range of product typologies, reflecting the evolving landscape of contemporary design.
